When You Don't Know Where to Start.

For a number of years I have wanted to create this blog. But, I have this problem that maybe you can relate to. I plan, and plan, and plan, and my dreams keep getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger until I feel so frustrated and overwhelmed that I have to pause. I think that I am doing so much, but when I stop, I realize that I haven't done anything. Days, weeks, months, years go by and I am still standing at the starting line.

The same goes for coaching. I started as a teenager and would occasionally fill in wherever I was needed. When I went off to college and continued playing afterwards, I would come back from my off seasons to coach 6-8 week programs because that's all I could commit to at the time. I always had a plan. I thought that I had to have a certain amount of education or playing experience before I could really commit to coaching my first team. So I would study, I would keep trying to advance higher in my playing career, and I would try and do all the right things so that I would be ready.

But the truth is, I am now in my first year coaching college soccer and all the years I have spent in the game and studying the game still hasn't fully prepared me for what I am encountering now.

I don't pretend to have all the answers. The truth is, I have none. What I can and will do is share my experience and invite you to share yours with me so that we can all get better together. That is my mission here: to grow and create a community pursuing excellence.

One of my favorite quotes is by Benjamin Mee in the film "We Bought a Zoo" and he says this: "If you're doing something for the right reasons, nothing can stop you."

So, don't worry about what others will say, don't worry if you don't have it all figured out. When you don't know where to start, just start. Everything else will fall into place.
